We are proud to take part in the European Week for Waste Reduction (18–26 November 2023), an international campaign aimed at raising awareness and encouraging actions related to waste prevention and reduction. The initiative involves citizens, businesses, educational institutions, public administrations and associations, providing an opportunity to share information and practices related to waste prevention, reuse and recycling.
As part of the initiative, Fiorini International highlights its approach to paper packaging design, with a focus on aspects that can contribute to the efficient use of materials and appropriate end-of-life management. Waste reduction is one of the areas considered within our sustainability roadmap. Our approach includes:
- Optimising packaging dimensions, with the aim of limiting unnecessary use of materials and avoiding overpackaging where possible.
- Exploring paper-based solutions for applications where they can represent an alternative to single-use plastic packaging, depending on the specific product and its intended use.
- Considering recyclability from the design stage, including packaging structure, materials and components, while recognising that actual recyclability depends on local collection, sorting and recycling systems.
- Considering opportunities for reuse, where the technical characteristics and intended application of the packaging make this possible.
One example is our ReuseMe paper shopping bag, developed for large retailers and designed for repeated use. The bag is made using FibreForm paper and has been developed with specific requirements for load resistance and multiple-use applications.
