Fiorini International receives the CONAI Ecodesign Packaging Award 2022
Fiorini International received the CONAI Ecodesign Packaging Award 2022 in the “Facilitation of recycling activities” category for the paper pasta bag with a transparent paper window developed for Antico Pastificio Umbro, in collaboration with Mondi Group.
The packaging solution was designed to replace plastic components with paper-based alternatives and to facilitate recycling at the end of its useful life, in accordance with the criteria assessed within the CONAI Ecodesign Packaging Award.
The ninth edition of the CONAI Award evaluated packaging solutions introduced during 2020–2021 according to different ecodesign criteria, including reuse, facilitation of recycling activities, use of recycled materials, raw material savings, logistics optimisation, simplification of packaging systems and optimisation of production processes.
The submitted cases were assessed using the CONAI Eco Tool, based on a simplified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology designed to estimate variations in environmental impacts, including energy and water consumption and CO₂ emissions. According to the competition framework, submitted cases were also subject to validation by a third-party certification body.
The award highlights the importance of considering environmental aspects from the packaging design stage and throughout its life cycle. For Fiorini International, the recognition represents an acknowledgement of the ecodesign approach applied to this specific packaging project and of the collaboration with Antico Pastificio Umbro and Mondi Group.
